The beginning is always the hardest. Where to start, what to do, and how to do it. Over the past couple of years I’ve been slowly attempting to “get it done” – what that is at times is often elusive or changes, but I always have that nagging feeling that I have something unfinished. This year is going to be different or at least that is the plan. The pressure of maybe one person following on this journey is hopefully enough to keep me going. Its time for changes, so in no particular order these are things I need to get done this year.
- Finish that course – yes THAT course. It has been 17 years and it is about time to finish it.
- Get my CCNP (CCNA first).
- Start some meaningful progress on my degree.
- Promotion at work or a career change.
- Learn to Surf – yes I can float on a board but this year I want to shred.
- Get Fit. This we are all working on especially in January every year, but this is the year I try to look good naked.
- Become a point a game player on my hockey team instead of a penalty a game player.
- Reconnect with all my friends and family – so if you get a call out of the blue this year it’s because I am committing to calling everyone I know at least once this year and hopefully see you as well once.
- Take a vacation somewhere warm and tropical – Hawaii?. Visit my first home Toronto and hopefully Washington and New York.
- Debt Free 2010 – we paid off all our debt last year only to accumulate some more, lets see if this year we can be 100% debt free for the year.
- Wake up early. I know for people with kids or jobs that require them to be at work for 7AM this seems easy, but for others who are more accustomed to sleeping in until 8AM and then rushing to work for 9AM. This is going to be tough. 6AM every morning except weekends and holidays.
- Do one month without any sugar or diet sodas.
- Read one new book a month.
- Post to this site at least once a week
So this all starts on January 1st. I don’t like New Years resolutions, never used them before so lets not call this a resolution because its more of a goal and a plan. Feel free to leave me comments or just lurk but either way wish me luck.
The hard part now will be coming up with the how for some of these. Some are very binary; did you do it or not, but some like Getting Fit have a bit more room for debate on what that is. How do I stay debt free and afford to surf or play hockey or take classes for my degree?
Either way the main goal is to be happy and further ahead Dec 31st 2010.
